Forty Second Rant Rules

  1. This contest is only open to Canadian residents over the age of 18. To enter the More.ca “40-second rant” an entrant must create a contest account (or use Facebook Connect), complete and submit the online entry form and submit a maximum of one rant per day at http://fortysecondrant.more.ca
  2. A user must register for a contest account and be logged-in in order to vote. A user may vote for an entry once every day.
  3. Out of all the entries received, a judging panel will select the top 10 to be voted on by the public.
  4. The contest begins February 25, 2010. All entries must be received by 11:59 PM (EST) April 28, 2010. Voting begins at 12:00 AM (EST) May 3, 2010 and ends 11:59 PM (EST) June 15, 2010.
  5. After the contest closes, a More.ca judging panel will select the winner based on the following criteria: number of votes received, the suitability of the entries, and quality of entries submitted. The entries that receive the largest number of votes will not necessarily be chosen as the winner, but votes received will be given considerable weight. The one (1) entrant to win will receive $400. 
  6. The winner will be announced online on June 21, 2010.
  7. All contest entries are approved by default. Inappropriate entries can be flagged using the "report abuse" button. If your contest entry is removed, you will receive an email telling you why it was denied. Once your contest entry has been submitted, no changes can be made to it.
  8. Winners will be required to sign a standard publicity/liability release. Prizes must be accepted as awarded and are not transferable. There are no substitutions except at the Contest Sponsor’s option.
  9. This contest is open to all residents of Canada aged 18 and older, excluding residents of Quebec, Transcontinental Media G.P. employees, directors and officers (and those with whom they are domiciled) of the Contest Sponsors and their respective advertising and promotional agencies. The Contest Sponsors and their respective affiliates, their advertising and promotional agencies accept no responsibility in any case where their inability to satisfy these contest rules arises from any situation which is outside of their control including but not limited to a situation of strike, lock-out or other labour strife in the Contest Sponsors’ workplaces or in the workplaces of any organization or entity whose services are used for running this contest. The Contest Sponsors accept no responsibility for entries lost, misdirected, illegible, incomplete, delayed or destroyed or for the failure or malfunction of any hardware, software or telecommunication component relating to online entries. The Contest Sponsors have the right to terminate or alter the rules of the contest at any time without notice for any reason whatsoever.
  10. Entrants may create a maximum of one entry per day for the contest duration.
  11. All entries become the property of More.ca (Transcontinental Media G.P.), which assumes no responsibility for lost, stolen, delayed, damaged, or misdirected entries or for any failure of the websites during the promotional period, for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail or entry to be received by More.ca (Transcontinental Media G.P.) on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website, or any combination thereof including any injury or damage to an entrant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from playing or downloading any material in the promotion. Any attempt to deliberately damage any web site or to undermine the legitimate operation of this promotion is a violation of criminal and civil laws, and should such an attempt be made More.ca (Transcontinental Media G.P.) reserve the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law, including criminal prosecution. Entries are subject to verification and will be declared invalid if they are illegible, mechanically reproduced, mutilated, forged, falsified, altered or tampered with in any way. Entrants agree to abide by the Contest Rules and the decisions of the independent judging panel, which are final.
  12. More.ca (Transcontinental Media G.P.) take no responsibility for entries lost, late, illegible, incomplete, or misdirected. We take no responsibility for technical problems beyond our control. Entries must be received by 11:59 PM (EST), April 28, 2010 in order to be eligible to win. Entries become the property of Transcontinental Media G.P., and none will be returned. Homemakers (Transcontinental G.P.) will not enter into correspondence or discussion with any entrants.
  13. Transcontinental Media G.P. reserves the right to disqualify any contest entry without warning if it is deemed that the entrant is cheating. Forms of cheating include (but are not limited to) creating invalid user accounts to vote for an entry; creating an automated script (also known as a “bot”) to vote for an entry; or using photographs and text for which the entrant is not the copyright owner.
  14. You acknowledge and agree that you remain the holder of the copyright of all material you submit as a user to Transcontinental Media (e.g. letter to the editor, comments, etc.). Moreover, you acknowledge and agree that by simply submitting your material to Transcontinental Media, you grant it a non-exclusive licence, without any compensation whatsoever to you, to use, edit, modify, delete, reproduce, publish, distribute and give sub-licences to such materials. To this effect, you waive any moral right you may assert related to the integrity of your work.
  15. The contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws. No correspondence will be entered into except with the winning entrants and individuals requesting a copy of contest rules. All entries become the property of More.ca (Transcontinental Media G.P.). The Contest Sponsors will be collecting data about entrants through the contest entry process. Any personal information will be handled in accordance with the privacy policy of More.ca (Transcontinental Media G.P.). By entering the contest, each entrant consents to the collection, use and distribution of his/her personal information (information that identifies an entrant as an individual, such as home telephone number, age and home address) by the Contest Sponsors for the purposes of implementing, administering and fulfilling the contest. The Contest Sponsors will not sell or transmit this information to third parties unless the entrant has specifically consented to same, the Contest Sponsors believe in good faith that it is required by law, to their affiliates (provided that such affiliates and their agents and advisors and their respective employees are restricted from using the information for any other purpose other than as described in these rules and regulations), or to their respective agents for data processing purposes, their respective professional advisors and promotional and marketing agencies (provided that such agents, professional advisors and promotional and marketing agencies are restricted from using the information for any purpose other than as described in these rules and regulations).
